News - January 07

Wow! LOADS OF PIKE - what a winter so far, it seems all our hard work and effort is starting to pay dividends . The Pike may not be massive but we’re catching plenty, that’s the main thing!

November 26th was the second round of the Cambourne Predator Cup and we chose to fish at Welney , a venue which we have grown to enjoy after catching a number of Pike from there, and a venue which we know holds some good size Pike. Six Pike were caught on that particular day of which Nigel Berryman caught 5 . They all fell to a new lure that Nigel had just bought and was trying for the first time . I can’t tell you what it is; I’m sworn to secrecy…

On an earlier day in November, Pike were coming thick and fast . I fished the River Ivel which was one river that was fishable after a few days of very heavy rain . I managed a great catch of 10 Pike and, for a real bonus, I also caught a terrific Perch which had snapped up my lure .

Early in December Nigel Berryman and Gary Philips took a day off work, got up before the crack of dawn and headed out into the fens .Their effort certainly paid off as they had some terrific sport in which they managed to bank a total of 9 Pike which included 2 double-figure fish up to 12lb . Seems the lucky lure struck again…I’ll never get a look-in now.

Hope to see you on January 21st for the 4th round of the Predator Cup and BE AWARE! that you must have a ROD LICENCE and that DAY TICKETS may have to be bought on some of the venues we visit .

The Pike Anglers of Cambourne may be running a series of outings during the summer months of 2007 to try and get some more interest from other Cambourne Anglers . We feel that maybe not everyone likes to get up at the crack of dawn on a cold frosty Sunday morning in December and spend all day on a riverbank when they can stay in bed or go shopping with their loved ones , or even stay in and cook the Sunday Roast… So how about spending just a few hours fishing in the morning or in the evening , with a nice stroll along the river catching a fish or two, and to finish I might even let you buy me a nice cold pint of Guinness as well…in the Monkfield Arms of course!

Until next time , Good Fishing, Stuart
