News - December 06

The Pike Anglers of Cambourne made their first trip of the winter by fishing a number of different venues. These waters included the 16ft Drain , Lode at Upware and the Old West River .

Gary Philips was the man who led the way as he caught 4 Pike and a Perch , One particular Pike was hooked and while Gary was landing the fish , a Pike much bigger was in the mood for an early lunch and decided to try and eat the hooked Pike . Unfortunately, we were unable to catch the culprit .There’s a surprise!
Myself, I only managed a couple of Pike, the biggest of which was about 6lb which was caught wobbling. Most of the fish caught on the day came by using lures.

The first round of the Cambourne Predator Cup was fished and although the event was poorly attended (unfortunately) we still managed a laugh, and had a good day’s sport. We started the day fishing the 16ft drain then moved onto the Old Bedford River and then finished off on a small River , The Delph . A total of 8 Pike were caught, but then wait for it!!! , Has anyone heard of catching a TENCH!!! yes a TENCH and on a lure ! Well I can tell you it happened , in front of our own eyes a fantastic fish of around 6lb which was caught by Goldenballs himself Nigel Berryman .

If you readers are finding that hard to believe then you’ll definitely not believe this one: Shortly after Nigel caught his Tench he called to me fishing upstream , “Bring down the net Stu, I’m in again” , Lo and behold another Tench was on , But this time Nigel unfortunately lost the fish just as it came to the net .

The next outing of the Predator Cup is Sunday 17th December. Just remember only ONE fish could land you this year’s Cup , so grab yourself a rod and reel and a handful of Lures or Deadbaits and come and join us.

BE AWARE! that you must have a Rod Licence and that Day tickets may have to be bought on some venues.

In the meantime, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas. Hope to see you in the New Year when we meet on the 21st January

Until next time , Good Fishing, Stuart
