Things really are coming along nicely for the Pike Anglers of Cambourne, the Pike are getting bigger and we are catching more. We are very optimistic that very soon one of us will catch the very fish we are all hoping for, a twenty pound Pike. With some terrific Pike to report in last month’s edition of The Crier, more double figure fish are still coming our way we are pleased to say.
On one of our recent trips into the Fens we managed a total of seven Pike with five being in double figures. Early into the session I caught a small Pike of around 3lb and then a little later another fish of just under 10lb which fell to a float-fished smelt dead bait.
After having a chat with a regular angler on the river, we were informed of some useful tips which included baits that were most popular, where the fish were likely to be and the size of fish we could expect, which was pleasant hearing to say the least. The information we received was not far from the truth as the rest of the day did produce some great sport with fish of 13lb 4ozs, 13lb 14ozs, and 14lb 2ozs which I did manage to catch twice! , and then a beauty of 14lb 8ozs which I was delighted with.
Our next outing proved to be a real tough nut to crack as we fished three different venues, two without any success, but the third did finally produce a couple of fish. One of the Pike fell to a lure that was fished by Gary who fished really hard and deserved his fish but unfortunately it only weighed around 4lb, but at least a fish was finally caught! , which finally put a smile on all our faces.
The only other Pike of the day was caught using float-fished sardine dead bait which took the bait right at the end of a very long day. It was caught by myself and weighed 12lb 6ozs, a nice fish to end a tough day.
The fourth round of the Predator Cup was fished on Sunday 21st January and it turned out to be a very disappointing day. We decided to fish the Old Bedford River and the only fish that was caught on the day came to Nigel, unfortunately it was small as well.
On Sunday 18th February we fished the fifth round of the Predator Cup and again we chose the Old Bedford, this time we did manage to catch five Pike with the biggest being Nigel’s fish of 11lb 9ozs, this now becomes the biggest Pike to have been caught so far in the Predator Cup.
The sixth and final round of the Predator Cup will be fished on Sunday 11th March, hope to see you there.
Until next time , Good Fishing, Stuart
